I ordered the RES not only for retro games, but also to serve as a KODI box. I haven't used Kodi before, so I'm new to it, and expect a learning curve. But I've encountered a few issues using the 17.0 Beta6 on the RES maybe others have as well, and maybe someone has some ideas how to solve.
1. Connecting to NAS drive via SMB crashes Kodi
I have a network drive with movies and TV shows. If I connect via SMB, Kodi will consistently crash when trying to pull up the pictures for the videos. If I connect to the NAS as a UPnP device, it doesn't happen. But then I don't get all the IMDb details and art.
2. Navigating Kodi menus with a PS3 controller
Only the left analog stick controls up, down, left and right movement. And in the settings / Input menu, Kodi doesn't allow me to change joystick configuration (greyed out), and doesn't let me go to 'Peripherals' to change the bluetooth controller (also greyed out). I wound up ordering a Logitech F310 USB controller to see if a generic controller works better. The start button on my included USB controller doesn't work anymore, so that's out.
3. Upgrade Kodi from 17 beta6 to 17.3
Yeah... I tried doing this, and through a fun series of events and randomly downloading updates for all packages (took 4 hours), all I succeeded in doing is completely hosing my RES. Wound up reflashing the SD card and starting over. I should note, I don't even see Kodi listed in the RetroPie RPSetup menu under manage installed packages. It's just not listed at all. Anyone else?
Anyone know how to solve for these? Thanks!
